Inside the only Sunni mosque in Greece.
by Christos Stefanou
In December, Muslim migrants from all over Greece came to Piraeus in order to celebrate the muslim feast of "Bairam". There is only one mosque for Sunnis in Greece and mainly men from Pakistan are congregated here once a week. Although tens of thousands in numbers, Muslims in Athens do not have any "real" mosque and have to get stoppered in rent underground appartments. The dominating orthodox church of Greece has been impeding the approval for building a mosque in the city centre for various years and would rather prefer a mosque in the city outskirts.
